My name is Ida Wikström. I am a graphic designer and illustrator, and my studio is called Visuella kommunikationsbyrån. Through my studio, I offer services in illustration, typography, visual identity design, and book and magazine layout. I also teach graphic design at Novia University of Applied Sciences in Pietarsaari and lead workshops for children and young people in comics and other visual arts-related subjects.
Letters are a particular passion of mine. They are both verbal and visual communication at the same time, and they can also convey history as well as emotion. I have a deep interest in the historical origins of letterforms and enjoy working on projects where the typefaces reflect the period they represent, such as Båken på Socklothällan and Hélène och Walter Grönqvists stiftelse. In my children's book Sagan om bokstaven som gick sin väg, I turned a lowercase i into a character of its own. Instead of standing neatly in line with the other letters, it sets off on adventures of its own.
I feel very much at home in the intersection between text and image. In my work, I always strive to create a dialogue between text and images and my audience, whether in the form of compelling visual reportage or comic art.
